Make Your Own Unicorn Cake with This Simple Tutorial

The easiest way to frost the buttercream onto the cake before using the spatula is by using a piping bag. This method allows for an even distribution of frosting and is quicker and easier than just smearing it on the sides of the cake.

This easy Unicorn Cake Roll Recipe looks like a dream thanks to all of the sprinkle and glitter going on. With several decorating options, you can easily recreate this cake roll recipe for your next birthday party!

The new popular version of the unicorn cake. We provide everything you see on this cake which includes the unicorn topper of ears and horn, the eyes, and the mane of colorful rosettes. Please note that the mane design may be slightly different than the photo. All you have to do is choose the cake size and flavor!

Spread a thick, even layer of buttercream over the chilled cake using a palette knife. Divide the remaining buttercream into three bowls and colour each one differently using the gel food colouring. Ours were light pink, purple and dark pink.

Put a little gold lustre dust into a bowl, add a drop of water and stir to make a gold paste. Using a small paintbrush, paint the unicorn horn gold using the paste, as well as the inside of the ears, if you like. Carefully place the gold horn in the middle of the iced cake, with the ears on either side.

Divide the black fondant in two pieces, and roll each into a thin sausage shape. Shape each into an arch, then press onto the front of the cake for eyes. If you like, curve the outer edges of the eyes upwards for eyelashes. Cut into slices and serve. Will keep in the fridge for up to three days.

Unicorns have taken the internet by storm! I am a big fan of bright colors and sparkles, and knew this was a trend I wanted to jump on. I decided to make colorful cake layers with a fluffy vanilla buttercream, and decorate it with a swirled pink horn, bright buttercream accents, and some edible gold dust! You can see the full tutorial on my YouTube channel.

Divide evenly into four bowls, and color each bowl a different color with 2 drops of gel food coloring. Pour batter into prepared cake pans. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a skewer comes out clean. Allow to cool for 10 minutes, then run an offset spatula around perimeter of the pan to separate the cake from the pan. Place cake layers on a rack to finish cooling.

Put 3/4 cup of frosting into four different bowls, and coloring them to match the cake layers (blue, pink, yellow, purple). Place 1/4 cup of frosting into a different bowl, and color black. This frosting will be used for the unicorns eyes, and can be placed into a piping bag with a small round tip. Put the other colored frosting into piping bags with various frosting tips. You can use whatever tips you have on hand! I used a Wilton 1M for the pink, an atecco 22 for the blue, a wilton 4D for the purple, and an atecco 16 for the yellow. Leave the remaining white frosting in your bowl to frost the cake layers.

Hi, I'm going to TRY your unicorn cake. My Granddaughter will be 5, so this is the cake she wants Grandma to make. My question is, I'm going to use 4 10 inch pans. Is there a way you can tell me how to do the math to figure out how much batter (I'm using the same that you used) and double the frosting? Every time I try to do the math, it never comes out. I'm going to have to do this 4 times since I only have 1 2.5 high 10 inch round pan. Thank you.

Smooth some over the top for an extra indulgent treat.

Mansour begins by layering five, 6-inch round cakes, frosting in between them with buttercream to create a tall cylinder. Home bakers looking to keep things a bit simpler could just do three taller layers.

Mansour makes the horn, ears and eyes out of fondant. She suggests using molds to do this, and building a toothpick or lollipop stick into the horn and ears that you can use to attach them to the cake later. Let the elements air dry, then paint the horn and inner ears with edible glitter mixed with lemon extract to form a paint.

Stick the horn and ears into the cake and use a dab of clear piping gel (a sticky cornstarch solution, available at baking stores) to attach the eyes and lashes if you used fondant; if you used buttercream, just stick the eyes and lashes on directly. Then, use a large star tip and buttercream frosting (pastel colors are traditional for unicorn cakes; for a seasonal twist use red, white or green) to pipe on the mane.

For the additional pink icing topping, we poured pink ganache made with hot pink melting chocolates and heavy cream on top of of the cake. You can use this tutorial for that rainbow dripped icing look.

I made this cake using 2 9inch pans, baked for about 25-30 minutes. The cake is really good and moist. I also added 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. As for the icing, I must confess I did not like it very much. I guess I am not a fan of the flavor imparted by the coconut cream in the icing. The icing also was a bit too creamy. I certainly will make cake again but instead use a cream cheese icing. I am thinking this cake is versatile in that one could replace the strawberry jam with other flavors such as apricot. Thanks for sharing this wonderful cake recipe.

The world's most hilariously terrible bakers are back, and they're coming for your unicorn food trend. Season 2 of Nailed It has unicorn cake fails, and they're beyond amazingly awful. The Netflix baking show, which features admittedly bad bakers trying to replicate fancy cake art is always pretty entertaining, but you'll cry laughing at one episode in particular.

I don't think unicorns come from eggs, but, whatever. Nicole, much like Kristina, shoved her uncooked cake into a pan and decorated the top of it. Her horn tried much harder, but her unicorn face and hair is clown-level terrifying.

If I had shown you this first you wouldn't have guessed it would be the best cake, but Chris basically won just by having his cake standing up. Sure, its eyes are a little dead and it looks like it got stabbed by the horn and is bleeding chocolate, but I'll take what I can get. Chris did make one unforgivable error though. To make his unicorn horn... he wrapped a carrot in fondant. Ew.

Choose your flavor and colors for this cute cake! Color will default to rainbow unless specified differently - Please see last photo to choose a colors and include in the order notes. Four colors are included in the current price

Speaking of short...while you might see some unicorn cakes that are short & stubby, we highly suggest your base be at least 5 inches tall. We want her slender and tall, kinda like a supermodel unicorn.

Add some MANE accessories. Make your unicorn all boho fresh with some buttercream flowers or even little fondant cut-outs! Easy, and really, just such a sweet touch. Or add some macarons, meringues, candies, the options are endless when it comes to customizing your Unicorn!

Try and change things up a bit! As Ashley Holt says from Sugar Monster Bakery, "Don't be afraid to stand out!" as she shows us her awesome rendition of a different kinda unicorn cake.. a, not so alive, one. ?
