This twelve week course, facilitated by Richard Cox, is based upon Tim Freke’s 2002 book, In the Light of Death: Spiritual Insight to Help You Live with Death and Bereavement. It is intended to introduce participants to the variety of ways spirituality speaks to death, drawing on both timeless philosophical wisdom and modern scientific research. We will look at the phenomena of Near Death Experience and After Death Communication, examining what the science has to say, but most importantly exploring how this knowledge can be comforting to people facing death. 

 

The course is rooted in the Continuing Bonds Paradigm: the idea that maintaining a sense of connection with deceased loved ones is intrinsically valuable - however we conceptualise it. It is also centered around an exploration of perennial spiritual philosophy, which proposes we can directly experience our own ‘unborn’ nature, which transcends both birth and death. Upon finding this in ourselves, we may then see it in other people.

 

Beyond anything that is taught, there is a strong emphasis on facilitating participants coming into their own authentic connection with mortality. It is the cultivation of this authenticity that provides the strongest foundation to reach out and support others.

 

The course is principally designed for anyone wishing to deepen their connection to death in order to work with others, whether this be in a therapeutic or hospice setting. It is also entirely open to those who are going through a personal bereavement or facing their own mortality, or those who are simply spiritually curious. Due to the involved nature of the meditations, if you are currently struggling with bereavement, it might be best to consult to see if the course is right for you at this time.

 

The course consists of twelve weekly sessions, with meditative and written exercises to complete in between. A certificate of completion will be issued at the end.
